Last night at The Game Awards, CAPCOM revealed Onimusha: Way of the Sword. The action game is an all-new adventure in the classic Onimusha franchise.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a dark-fantasy action game that takes players to Kyoto Japan during the Sengoku Period mixing history and folklore into a story about warriors with the power of the Oni (Japanese oger Yokai) as they fight supernatural enemies known as the Genma who want to destroy the world.
The franchise first hit the market in 2001 and became an instant classic for many fans as the game was highly praised for its combat and satisfying counterattack mechanics. The series was also loved because of the creative way the stories were laid out to include historical Japanese figures along with original characters facing the supernatural. The Onimusha series is one of Capcom’s best-selling series along with Resident Evil.
The reveal trailer shows a cinematic glimpse of the dark world that will await players as a Samurai with the Oni Gauntlet faces off against otherworldly enemies, offering up a taste of what’s to come. Fans are already buzzing over the news and collectively praising that this is an original title to the series and not a remake or remastered.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam in 2026.
