It’s been a while since I’ve played a point-and-click game, especially one that’s horror-themed. I was drawn to Stasis at first as it reminded me of Event Horizon and Pandorum, but after playing the console ported version…I was left more frustrated than anything else. I want to thank The Brotherhood and Feardemic for sending over a copy to check out.
Stasis follows John, a husband and father who, along with his wife and daughter, were put into stasis for their trip to Titan, but John wakes up on a different station devoid of life.
I’m just going to come right out and say it…it’s hard to get into this game because of a fatal bug/glitch/whatever you want to call it. The game likes to start over, and you lose all progress. How this happened to me, whenever I pause the game, usually to get out of the pause screen, you click a back button (usually on Xbox, it’s the B button), but in this case, all buttons are used to input (A button) on a choice, and whenever you pause the game, the curser is always on the “Start new game” option.
When I’ve clicked on that a couple of times (YES it’s happened a few times for me out of habit), I would “Restart” the game, but strangely any doors I’ve opened are still open, John is healed (He’s injured at the start of the game) and all items in my inventroy are gone.
I know, you’re going to say, “Just restart.” Well, there’s no option to go to the main menu and start over; you have to turn the game off and boot it back up to start over. Another thing that irks me, there’s an icon that shows that appears to indicate autosaving…there’s no autosave, it seems, you’ll have to save manually.
It would be wrong of me to try rating this game, as it seems to have positive reviews for PC, and I don’t know how other Console editions are for others, but it seems like Stasis didn’t port well to Xbox at least. This game’s bricking bug with the UI made playing this game frustrating when it didn’t need to be. If you really want to check this game out, console users beware, but PC players should have no issue.
