Game Review: ‘Forgive me Father 2’

Back in 2022, Byte Barrel and Fulqrum Publishing released an intriguing FPS experience inspired by both comic books and the works of H.P. Lovecraft, Forgive me Father. I’ll admit I missed the boat on that one, but Byte Barrel and Fulqrum were awesome enough to allow me to experience the growing madness as the story continues in Forgive me Father 2.

Forgive me Father 2 follows The Priest as he tries to balance being in an asylum and piecing together his past while facing eldritch horrors.

Now, onto the game itself! Forgive me Father 2‘s controls are easy to learn, especially if you’re an experienced FPS player. It goes without saying that the art style and direction of this game are what make it fantastic! The comic book look of the game’s world, the character design of the enemies and weapons, screams 90s and fits the aesthetic of the game being a boomer-shooter.

The voiceover work is pretty decent, along with the sound mixing, but the soundtrack, OH LORD, I love it! If you’re a fan of the Doom games, you know what I’m talking about! The heavy riffs fit well with the game’s aesthetic and feel.

Gameplay-wise, it’s what you expect of a boomer-shooter. You explore the levels and kill eldritch horrors while trying to survive! Replayability is high with this, as you have to find secrets within each level that can give you tokens that you can use to buy weapons (each having its own perk), along with unlocking cards that are a set of perks that will help you along your journey and give you an edge over the insanity that awaits.

Overall, I had a lot of fun, almost too much, with Forgive me Father 2! Sometimes, just going back to simpler gameplay mechanics in FPS games is never a bad thing, especially when done right! On my Scale of 1-10, Forgive me Father 2 is a 10!

Forgive me Father 2 is out now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S! Nintendo Switch will be coming later.
