Game Review (Kinda): ‘Labyrinthine – console edition’

It takes a lot for a game to piss me off… A LOT. Valko Games Studios’ Labyrinthine – Console Edition did just that. To give you a little behind the scenes of how I review games, depending on how many games are in the hopper, I try to play a game for a minimum of 3-4 hours just to get an honest opinion of it. I could not even get 30 minutes out of this one.

Labyrinthine – Console Edition is a multiplayer/solo horror exploration game where players go through mazes to solve puzzles while trying to avoid monsters that lurk within. Sounds promising… IF the game works. The game was released on the 18th of September, and since then, there have been no patches for it. Needless to say, Labyrinthine – Console Edition was DOA for Xbox Series X/S (what I was trying to play it on).

The game is virtually unplayable with annoying bugs. According to the game, you use the X button for EVERYTHING. Obviously, you don’t use just one button for every action, but according to this game, you do! Press X to pick up object, Press X to crouch, Press X to Run, Press X to use flashlight, etc. Since I saw that was going to be a problem, I decided to play a custom game, once I could figure out the damn main menu, which is just as buggy. In the custom game, you can set how big the map is, puzzle difficulty, and the number of monsters. I thought No biggie, just make the map small, easy puzzles, and no monsters, since the controls were scuffed. I launch the custom game, and guess what… none of the parameters worked. The map was a random size, and I could not even find puzzles since I was already getting attacked by monsters.

Shame on Valko Games Studios for releasing this game without checking for bugs. The company’s slogan is “We Believe in Quality”, horse shit! If they really believe in that, they would not have put this out there and expect people to pay $15 for this?! I got it for free, and it was NOT WORTH IT.

Press X to avoid.
