Canada’s Calgary Underground Film Festival has announced its jaw-dropping full lineup of films playing at the 23rd edition of the festival, from April 16–26, 2026. It’s a genre-film aficionado’s delight, with 80 films on tap, along with some special events. Following is the official press announcement.

The Calgary Underground Film Festival has announced the full lineup of films playing at the 23rd Festival, from April 16-26, 2026 at Globe Cinema. On scale with last year’s milestone festival, which broke all previous attendance records with 12,500 attendees and more industry guests than ever before, CUFF 2026 will show 45 feature films, 35 shorts, and 6 special events over 11 days.

From horror and sci-fi to indie comedies and documentaries, the festival showcases diverse programming of films that defy convention. CUFF is Western Canada’s largest genre film festival, internationally recognized as a top horror film festival on the circuit, and one of the year’s most anticipated events for local film fans.

“I always love watching how the lineup comes together, and this year we have a ton of variety once again and so many hidden gems. There’s everything from unique character-driven quirky documentaries to lots of horror and comedies in this year’s lineup,” said Festival Director & Lead Programmer, Brenda Lieberman.

In addition to premieres of some of the year’s biggest indie films, CUFF also continues to showcase emerging talent and fresh voices in film. ”Over half the lineup is feature directorial debuts, which makes me proud,” said Lieberman.

Highlights of the CUFF 2026 program include:

  • This year’s festival will open with the Canadian Premiere of the supernatural horror HOKUM on Thursday, April 16. From Damian McCarthy (ODDITY, CUFF 2024), HOKUM is a bone-chilling film starring Adam Scott (THE OVERNIGHT, CUFF 2015) as a novelist who is haunted at a remote inn during a trip to scatter his parents’ ashes. Following the film, there will be an Afterparty at The Derrick, featuring a live DJ set from CJSW Station Manager Adam Kamis.

  • The festival will close with the International Premiere of I LOVE BOOSTERS, hot off its World Premiere at SXSW, on Sunday, April 26. With an all-star cast including Keke Palmer (NOPE), LaKeith Stanfield (SORRY TO BOTHER YOU), and Demi Moore (THE SUBSTANCE), the comedy from hip-hop legend and visionary filmmaker Boots Riley (SORRY TO BOTHER YOU, 2018) is about a crew of professional shoplifters who take aim at a cutthroat fashion maven.
  • Focusing on Alberta content, CUFF will premiere 4 Alberta features, 4 features with Alberta connections, and 5 Alberta shorts
