Candles really set the mood for anything, a relaxing bath, reading a good book in the dark, summoning an eldritch demigod in order to earn your admission into an esoteric order, OR setting the mood for you and your friends for a dungeon crawl. At Candle Qwest, that’s exactly what you get, and more! I want to give a big thank you to Wyl and the other Wizards over at Candle Qwest for making this review happen!
My olfactory adventure has brought me to the land of the undead with the Zombie Survival Candle. what sets this candle apart is that it’s a game of chance all on its own! How? Inside each candle, there are three layers with a unique treasure waiting for you to pull from the molten wax, the first layer there’s a weapon (I got a cleaver), the second has a unique character pin, and finally, the third layer will reveal your fate with either a body part OR a token that will allow you to play the next quest the following month!
The candle itself has a strong but not offensive odor, meaning that while some scented candles as they burn the smell may give you a headache after a while this one does not do that! Even when the candle is not lit, it gives off a pleasant smell. The candle came with a plate for you to burn the candle on because as the mountain-shaped candle burns, the wax will flow like lava, actually a really neat design to be honest.
The candle comes with a pair of tongs for you to fish out the treasures as the wax melts, unfortunately, mine did not come with it BUT it’s not the end of the world (No Johns or Karens!), I have a bunch of larger tweezers I use for building terrain that works just as well. Because of this, I would strongly suggest adult supervision if you’re using this with your kids…or stupid adults.
With a nice-smelling candle, a plate, tongs, and three items, the price is well worth it as it adds to your game sessions with friends, kicking back and reading some Tolkien or Lovecraft, true crime and chill, or marathoning some b-movies. The best part is, even after the candle outlives its use, I plan on saving up the wax in a mason jar for the hotplate that I use for my scented wax melts.
