Over the past few years, Disney has been on a mission to adapt their most popular animated films into live-action stories with movies like Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid.
The internet is buzzing after posts have surfaced stating that a live-action version of the 1993 Tim Burton classic The Nightmare Before Christmas is in the works with Johnny Depp set to star. But is it true?
Currently, the posts have nothing to back them up. Disney, Depp, or Burton has made no official announcement on the subject, and until they do, you shouldn’t put much stock in the rumor.
Depp is known for his many fantastic roles, including in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as the infamous pirate Captain Jack Sparrow. According to the New York Post, after being fired from the franchise due to controversy in his personal life, he has been rehired for the next installment with a massive $300 million payday. While that is a huge amount, you have to remember that the franchise has earned Disney more than $4.5 billion at the box office.
Depp has had a rough couple of years, first with the allegations by his ex Amber Heard that he was abusive, followed by the trial that intrigued the world that revealed that she was really the monster. A new documentary, Depp V Heard, about the battle has just arrived on Netflix if you want to learn more.
Will we get a live-action Nightmare Before Christmas movie? I hope so, but it remains to be seen. We’ll keep you posted.
