Horror maestro Christopher Landon (son of legendary actor Michael Landon), fresh off his departure from the upcoming Scream sequel, which seems to be a sinking ship, has already sunk his teeth into a new cinematic beast. According to Deadline, he’s set to direct Big Bad for Lionsgate. The film is a werewolf tale based on a chilling story by Chandler Baker, who is adapting her work for the big screen.

In Big Bad, we’re drawn into the tumultuous world of the Strauss family. Sam, a father burdened by domestic discontent, grapples with resentment. Rachel, his restless counterpart, yearns for something more. As night descends and shadows lengthen, the Strauss family faces a primal battle for survival—a struggle against the monstrous predators at their doorstep but also against the demons within themselves.

Baker’s story, featured in the anthology “Creature Feature,” captivated readers with its ability to “tingle the spine and twist the mind.” With Landon at the helm, Big Bad promises to be a potent blend of psychological tension and raw, visceral horror. Landon, no stranger to the genre, brought you hits like Happy Death Day and Freaky. Todd Lieberman and Hidden Pictures are joining forces to produce the chilling horror film alongside Landon.

You can expect an unnerving exploration of family dynamics and people pushed to the breaking point. In this place, the lines between human and beast blur under the unforgiving moonlight sometime soon.

Big Bad is joining the long list of recently announced adaptations. This year, we’ve already reported on the upcoming movies based on the games Until Dawn and Martha is Dead. Let’s not forget season two of “Twisted Metal.” There is a movie based on the podcast “The Earth Moves (First Time Caller).” Then there is the series “Yu Yu Hakusho,” based on the legendary manga. Of course, it’s no surprise that we are getting several films based on the works of Stephen King, including Life of Chuck, starring Tom Hiddleston, and the reimaging of Salem’s Lot. 2024 is already shaping up to be the year of the adaptation.
