Nicolas Cage is heading back into high-octane survival horror territory for Parish. This upcoming post-apocalyptic action thriller pits the Academy Award winner against a vicious horde of wasteland cannibals.
Written and directed by Adam Sigal (Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose), the film sees Cage as a hardened survivor navigating the brutal aftermath of a nuclear war.
Concourse Media is handling worldwide pre-sales for the project. Positioning the survival thriller as a major big-screen event designed for global audiences.
Compassion vs. Survival Behind Fortified Walls
The film is set three decades after a nuclear catastrophe. The narrative follows a recluse named Parish, who has managed to survive alongside his squad of highly trained attack dogs. He adheres to a single, unyielding rule: never let anyone through the gate. For thirty years, that boundary has kept the horrors of the ruined world at bay. However, his fortress-like security crumbles when a desperate woman carrying an infant shows up outside his sanctuary. Choosing compassion over self-preservation, Parish opens his doors. It is a decision that instantly exposes his sanctuary and draws the wrath of a ruthless band of cannibals. With his compound under siege and ghosts from his past catching up to him, Parish is plunged into a blood-soaked fight to protect the life he built.
A High-Octane Big-Screen Event
Deadline reports that production on Parish is slated to kick off in Minnesota. It will bring together a top-tier creative team that includes veteran cinematographer David Tattersall (The Green Mile, Con Air).
Concourse Media CEO Matthew Shreder praised the project’s pedigree, highlighting Cage’s performance and emotional range as the driving force behind a sophisticated, theatrical survival thriller.
“There’s a scale and pedigree to Parish that immediately separates it from the pack, with all the ingredients of a real theatrical event,” Shreder states. “Nic Cage is an incredible and fearless actor, with an extraordinary group of filmmakers around him who are all setting out to make a sophisticated survival thriller that’s a cinematic event built for a global audience.”
Producer Joel Shapiro noted that while the story presents a savage, cinematic wasteland, the film rests on the raw humanity and emotional intensity Cage brings to the title role.
“Adam has created a world that is savage, cinematic and incredibly visceral, but what drew us to Parish was the humanity underneath it. Nick Cage brings an unpredictability and emotional intensity that makes him perfect for this character.”
Cage’s Horror Legacy
Nicolas Cage has a long history and deep roots in horror. It began with 1988’s Vampire’s Kiss. The 2000’s meme-worthy remake of The Wicker Man followed, proving his early commitment to unhinged, high-intensity genre performances.
However, his modern-genre reign took off in 2018 with the psychedelic revenge masterpiece Mandy, followed closely by H.P. Lovecraft’s cosmic nightmare Color Out of Space in 2019.
In recent years, Cage has balanced absurdly entertaining hits like Willy’s Wonderland, Ghost Rider, and Renfield with acclaimed prestige horror like A24’s Dream Scenario and Osgood Perkins’ sensation Longlegs. He also starred in the survival film Archadian. However, Cage’s most recent genre film, The Carpenter’s Son, was equal parts religion and horror.
We’ll keep you posted on Parish as new details surface.
