Three decades after revolutionizing independent cinema with shaky handheld cameras and stick figures, The Blair Witch Project co-creator Eduardo Sánchez and producer Gregg Hale are officially returning to the subgenre that made them legends. Swapping the haunted Maryland woods for the high-stakes world of social media, the duo has teamed up for The Influencer Project. This found-footage nightmare turns the modern obsession with digital fame into pure, unadulterated terror. Tickets are officially on sale now ahead of its theatrical debut this October.

When “Going Live” Transforms into a Fight for Survival

Inspired by real events and drawing on authentic experiences, the film stars fashion and beauty creator Chiara King. She is making her feature debut as a fictionalized version of herself. The plot follows King as she travels to Copenhagen alongside a documentary crew. They are tasked with pulling back the curtain on her glamorous online brand. However, broadcasting every move to millions of devoted followers comes with a deadly price. As an obsessive stalker begins closing in, the documentary spirals into a frantic, real-time fight for survival.

“Stepping into this role felt deeply personal for me,” said Chiara King. “I was able to draw from my own experience to bring an honesty to the performance, while also exploring what it means to take back your sense of control. I’m incredibly proud of what we created, and I can’t wait for audiences to experience the film and go on this journey with us.”

A Global Collaboration Packed with Genre Heavyweights

Marking Mike Nybroe’s feature directorial debut, The Influencer Project is a co-production between Hades Films, Point Neuf, and Voltron Global Media. Nybroe directs from a script he co-wrote alongside Lars Ap and Anders Jon Petersen. Legendary found-footage pioneers Sánchez and Hale produce the feature alongside Alex Hertzberg and Ahmet Zappa. Steven Greenberg is executive producing, and acclaimed musician DJ White Shadow is serving as composer and music supervisor.

The Horror of Pocket-Sized Predators

Sánchez and Hale noted that while fear was once a supernatural force lurking in the dark woods, today it lives constantly in our pockets on our screens. Opening up your daily life to millions of online strangers means inviting dangerous predators directly, along with their followers. King emphasized that drawing from her own firsthand experiences with online toxicity brought a deep, raw honesty to her performance. Horror fans eager to experience the social media descent can secure their tickets now ahead of the film’s nationwide release on October 2.

“The film unearths, in a very grounded, very visceral way, the horror beneath sharing yourself online,” said Sanchez. “The stalking depicted in the film is something Chiara knows firsthand and that comes across in her performance,” added Hale. “There’s a rawness that brings the threat to life in a completely believable way. It’s terrifying.”
