Get ready, boils and ghouls! As October approaches and horror fans plan their seasonal viewing, AMC has unveiled the full programming schedule for its 30th annual FearFest celebration! Kicking off October 1 across AMC and AMC+, the month-long marathon will deliver over 650 hours of classic horror films, iconic franchises, genre specials, and original series.
But it gets better! To mark three decades of genre broadcasting, the event features the triumphant return of the Crypt Keeper, the iconic host from the beloved 1990s series Tales from the Crypt. Voice actor John Kassir returns to provide the character’s signature laugh and dark humor, backed by returning sponsor BACARDÍ Rum for the annual television tradition.
Practical Effects Mastermind Revamps Horror Icon
The famous host returns with a modern upgrade courtesy of special effects legend and The Walking Dead director Greg Nicotero. Working alongside his team at KNB EFX Studio, Nicotero completely rebuilt the original animatronic puppet. He also updated its movements, visual detail, and puppet engineering. All while preserving the character’s classic design. Collaborating with AMC’s in-house studio, Nicotero directed a series of original host segments that feature Kassir’s vocal talents. The revival bridges classic practical creature design and contemporary television production, leading audiences through the network’s seasonal lineup.
A Legacy Celebration of Genre Cinema
Celebrating thirty years of marathon programming, AMC leadership and creative teams designed this year’s event as both a nostalgia-driven tribute and a showcase for the network’s vast horror catalog. Bringing the Crypt Keeper back as the master of ceremonies offers long-time fans a nostalgic gateway into the network’s curated film blocks and marathon events. The 30th-anniversary celebration reinforces the tradition of linear horror broadcasting, offering fans an endless marathon of fear throughout the Halloween season.
