Official synopsis
A collection of Halloween-themed videotapes unleashes a series of twisted, blood-soaked tales, turning trick-or-treat into a struggle for survival.
Review
The V/H/S found-footage franchise serves up one of its darker — both in humor and horror — and overall stronger entries yet with V/H/S Halloween. A terrific anthology of Halloween-themed terror tales, it should make for regular viewing around the holiday for years to come.
“Diet Phantasma” (wraparound story), writer/director Bryan M. Ferguson
“Diet Phantasma” is a great wraparound that finds supernatural mayhem breaking out during a company’s taste test for a new soft drink. Splatter and insanity abound. Make sure to stick around for a mid-credits scene involving this storyline.
“Coochie Coochie Coo,” writer/director Anna Zlokovic
This segment finds two friends taking an unadvised trip into a home in a city where a local urban legend exists about a dangerous mother figure. It’s no surprise who lives in the house, but what happens inside is full of discomiting surprises. This entry continues the V/H/S tradition of presenting a unique-looking monster with peculiar predilections.
“Ut Supra Sic Infra,” director Paco Plaza, written by Plaza and Alberto Marini
Police officers unwisely bring a traumatized young man back to the scene of where his partygoing friends were all slaughtered, with him being the only survivor. Although seasoned care-fare devotees will know right where this one is headed, the execution is impressively done. “Don’t answer the phone,” indeed.
“Fun Size,” writer/director Casper Kelly
“Fun Size” is one of my two favorite offerings in V/H/S Halloween. It offers a pair of highly unique creatures not only laying waste to a group of twentysomething trick or treaters in unique ways, but using their body parts for an unexpected reason. There’s also a small gotcha concerning one of the couples involved. Highly imaginative with no shortage on the gore.
“Kidprint,” writer/director Alex Ross Perry
This segment is bound to be the most divisive in the bunch. It didn’t work for me at all. I rarely use the term “torture porn” in my reviews, but I’m darned well going to use it here. Spoilerish alert: If watching teenagers and younger children getting tortured, including being skinned, is your idea of edgy horror, have at it with this entry. It feels gratuitous and determined to provide shock for shock’s sake and is not for me, though. Some gorehounds are going to love it, though.
“Home Haunt,” writers/directors Micheline Pitt-Norman & R.H. Norman
Here we have the other of my two favorite offerings. A father who loves to set up a neighborhood haunt every Halloween gets resistance from his teenage son, who blames the character he portrayed for previous haunts to be the reason he doesn’t have a girlfriend. The boy reluctantly goes along once again, and during a shopping excursion for the event, the dad steals an item that is going to cause insane carnage and chaos.
V/H/S Halloween comes strongly recommended, although obviously I have an issue with “Kidprint.” If you’re looking for a new Halloween movie that boasts shocks, surprises, and plenty of body parts and blood, this one has you covered.
V/H/S HALLOWEEN debuted on Shudder on October 3, 2025.
