Ever wanted a 2D top-down online multiplayer survival horror? Well, your wish has come true with Noct. Highly stylized and reminiscent of games like Alien Swarm or Hotline Miami, Noct pits you against a dark force, known as Nocturnal, that has wiped out most of human civilization and turned the Earth into a desolate wasteland devoured by darkness. However, the nightmarish beasts conjured by this endless night aren’t the only enemies you will face, as there will be other players to compete with. Sure you can team up with them, but in a world overrun with evil, it’s every person for themselves.
Noct switches things up with the way it looks by making it look as though you are watching the scenario through thermal imaging, giving you a fairly limited range of sight that can easily be overwhelmed by the monsters that lurk around corners – and with only one life, you would be wise to explore with caution. Adding in the multiplayer aspect puts you even more on edge as you never know who to trust. What can start as a seemingly mutual beneficial partnership can easily lead you to an early grave.
The game was created by Toronto-based C3SK and will be published by Devolver Digital, the same company behind the Serious Sam and Hotline Miami series’. It originated on Kickstarter and managed to raise over $36,000, surpassing it’s goal of $22,000. As well, Steam has recently added it to it’s Greenlight line-up, a space for indie games to find a home.
Noct will be available for PC, Mac, and Linux systems Oct. 22nd via Steam.
