‘Lucifer’, set to premier on FOX in 2016, is having a Hell of a time dealing with The American Family Association and the One Million Moms branch of the heavily conservative and religious group. The two groups are calling for the early cancellation of the series. They claim that ‘Lucifer’ glorifies Satan, violence and sex. The show depicts Lucifer as a handsome man with a British accent who aids the police department after a his friend is gunned down in front of a nightclub. The groups have opened a petition that stands at around 120,000 signatures as of now, along with a boycott of FOX.
Neil Gaiman, who created ‘Sandman’ the graphic novel that ‘Lucifer’ was based on had this to say about the nonsense.
“Ah, it seems like only yesterday (but it was 1991) that the “Concerned Mothers of America” announced that they were boycotting ‘Sandman’ because it contained Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Trans characters. It was Wanda that upset them most: the idea of a Trans woman in a comic book…They told us they were organizing a boycott of ‘Sandman’, which they would only stop if we wrote to the American Family Assocication and promised to reform.” He continues: “I wonder if they noticed it didn’t work last time either…”

The group has stirred up trouble in the past for others, including JC Penny. JC Penny was pushed to drop Ellen DeGeneres as a spokesperson because of her Lesbian status, they eventually did drop DeGeneres. The groups have also boycotted and protested everything from McDonalds, Muslims in the military, same-sex marriage, and more recently they’ve lent their support to the Duggar family. These people make my head hurt.
There is no comment available at this time from FOX on their opinion of the situation. Let’s hope they tell the groups to go to Hell.
