‘Transformers’ director Michael Bay has announced his role as co-producer on a new upcoming remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 classic, ‘The Birds’. That’s right, even Hitchcock is not safe from Hollywood’s latest obsession, remakes.
Dutch film-maker Diederik Van Rooijen will be directing the new version for Mandalay Pictures, who is sharing co-producer status with Universal and Michael Bay’s company Platinum Dunes Production.
In the original film a seaside town is swarmed by huge flocks of seagulls and crows, who reek havoc on the town and it’s residents. ‘The Birds’ starred Tippi Hedren as Melanie Daniels, a San Francisco socialite. The rumor is, Naomi Watts is in negotiations to play the role of Melanie in the new version.
When Hedren heard that a remake was in the works, her comment pretty much summed up exactly what we are thinking, “Why would you do that? Why?”.
