Anchor Bay has purchased the North American distribution rights to the Goetz brothers’ remake of the 2009 French film ‘Martyrs’, originally directed by Pascal Laugier. The remake of the intense, gore filled film, considered one of the most brutal movies every made, has already been filmed.
Bailey Noble, who stared in the vampire series ‘True Blood’, stars along side Troian Bellisario of ‘Pretty Little Liars’. Blake Robbins (Rubber) and Kate Burton (Big Trouble In Little China) are also cast in ‘Martyrs’.
In the film a ten year old girl named Lucie escapes from the warehouse where she has been held prisoner. Lucie is deeply traumatized and struggles with terrifying nightmares while growing up in an orphanage. Ten years later Lucie and her only friend Anna, finally track down the family that kidnapped and tortured her as a child. Soon the girls find themselves trapped in the same situation Lucie survived once before, but this time if they two can not escape, a painful death will await them, the death of a Martyr.
The release date for ‘Martyrs’ has not been announced, but with the movie’s filming complete, it should not be long. The trailer for the new version has not been released at this time, but here is the trailer for the original film to give you a taste of what you might expect.
