Fans of Doctor Frank-N-Furter, brace yourself, FOX is set to remake the iconic ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’, which will be released in a two our special next Fall. FOX has made the bold choice to cast ‘Orange is the New Black’ Emmy award winning, transgender actress Laverne Cox as Frank-N-Furter, originally played by Tim Curry.
‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ recently celebrated it’s 40th anniversary and remains the longest running production in history. The original film was written by Richard O’Brian and Jim Sherman, who also directed the classic. This fun musical masterpiece starred Curry, Susan Sarandon (Janet), Barry Bostwick (Brad), Richard O’Brian (Riff Raff), Patricia Quinn (Magenta), Nell Campbell (Columbia), Jonathan Adams (Dr. Everett Scott), Peter Hinwood (Rocky) and Meat Loaf (Eddie).
Emmy award winner Kenny Ortega (Hocus Pocus) will choreograph, direct and serve as executive producer for the special. Lou Adler, the executive producer of the original film, will be producing the new “reimagined” version.
I’m sure there will be fans who are upset about the “reimagining” of such a cherished cult classic and I’m sure there will be a few fans who are excited to see a new modern version of ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’. Personally, I wish people would leave the classics alone. I will say this, I am a fan of Cox, she’s a very talented actress and anyone who has seen ‘Orange is the New Black’ would have to agree. I am curious about who else will be cast, they have a lot to live up to.
