The SyFy channel has acquired the new female-driven vampire series, ‘Van Helsing’ from Nomadic Pictures. ‘The Wicker Man’ scribe, Neil LaBute, will be serving as both writer and showrunner for the show, which begins production in January. The first season of ‘Van Helsing’ will consist of thirteen action packed episodes.
The premiere episode centers on Vanessa, the daughter of the legendary vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing. Vampires have taken over the world and Vanessa discovers she has a unique power over them and is humanity’s last hope of recovering the world that was lost.
Chad Oakes, Co-Chairman of Nomadic Pictures, made the statement “Van Helsing represents a new mythology in sci-fi by challenging traditional vampire rules. The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival.”
