We reported back in October that stunt woman Olivia Jackson, who has worked on films such as Mad Max: Fury Road and The Force Awakens, had awoke from a coma after her injuries in a devastating accident on the set of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Unfortunately, due to complications, she will now have to have her left arm amputated. A GoFundMe account has been set up to help Olivia and her family.
Now, news has come that a crew member has lost his life in another accident on the set of Resident Evil. Ricardo Cornelius was rushed to the hospital after a Hummer fell off of a platform. He was working with other crew members to manually rotate the Hummer on a platform when it fell on top of him. Cornelius died several hours later at a hospital with his family by his side, including his new wife on December 3rd.
Two terrible accidents on one film set, months apart, one life lost and one changed forever. I truly hope that these tragedies bring the need for better safety measures for casts and crews to the film industry’s attention.
Our thoughts are with the families of Ricardo Cornelius and Olivia Jackson at this tough time.
