So many classic horror films have recently fallen to the new trend of remaking, rebooting and adapting with which Hollywood seems to be obsessed. There are some classics that should never be messed with, unfortunately, few studios turn one down. Now, news has come via Deadline that The Exorcist, one of the most important horror films in history, is being adapted for TV.
Fox has officially ordered the pilot for the supernatural drama. Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four) has been tapped to pen the series, which has been in search of a network since 2013. The cast of the adaption has not been announced.
The Exorcist series is said to follow two men, very different from each other, as they attempt to tackle the case of one family’s horrific supernatural experiences and their child’s demonic possession.
20th Century Fox TV will be producing along side Morgan Creek Productions. Slater, David Robinson, James Robinson and Barbra Wall will be serving as Executive Producers for the project.
The original 1973 film was based on the 1971 novel by William Blatty, by the same name. Blatty also served as screenwriter for the film. The Exorcist starred Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn, Max Von Sydow and was directed by William Friedkin.
The Exorcist is masterpiece in every way. I can not see how any adaption or remake could improve it, but that’s just my opinion.
