Spotlight Pictures has acquired the rights to writer/director Mitchell Lichenstein’s upcoming gothic thriller Angelica. The film stars The Hunger Game‘s Jena Malone, two-time Academy Award nominee Janet McTeer (Tumbleweeds) and Ed Stoppard (The Pianist).
The dark film follows a newly married couple living in Victorian England. The couple endures a series of increasingly worsening physiological and supernatural events after the birth of their child.
Joyce Pierpoline (Teeth) serves as producer for Angelica, which is based on the novel by the same name, written by Arthur Philips. Angelica premiered at last year’s Berlin Film Festival and will show this month at the European Film Market on Valentine’s Day. The theatrical release date has yet to be announced.
