Fox’s upcoming series adaption of William Blatty’s 1971 novel, The Exorcist, is picking up speed. Two weeks ago Fox announced that the Scream Queen actress Brianne Howey had been cast as Charlotte, their version of Regan. Geena Davis has since joined the cast along with Alfonso Herrera (Sense8), Ben Daniels (House of Cards) and Kurt Egiawan (Beasts of No Nation) and Hannah Kasulk.
Davis has been cast as Angela Rance, a regal and proud woman, under tremendous stress, trying to keep her faith and stay positive while her family is going through hell.
The series, penned by Jeremy Slater (The Lazarus Effect), has been described as a modern reinvention of the novel that was also adapted into William Friedkin’s horror classic by the same name. The series follows two very different men, Father Marcus Lang (Daniels) and Father Tomas Ortega (Herrera) , as they tackle a family’s terrifying case of demonic possession.
Slater will also serve as executive producer along with David Robinson, James Robinson and Barbara Wall for 20th Century Fox TV and Morgan Creek Productions.
