Do you remember the joy of walking into a video rental store and seeing those marvelous shelves and isles full of potential frights? Of course, you do. At least once, you accidentally left a tape in a hot car, only to find a melted pile of distorted film or sat one on your car, only to forget about it, until you felt that thump as your tires crushed it to bits, or you may have just completely forgot you had it all together.
Well, for one man in Concord, North Carolina his forgotten tape has landed him in jail. That’s right, jail. James Meyers was arrested for failing to return a 14 year-old VHS of 2002’s Freddy Got Fingered to J&J’s video, which is now closed. Meyers is also facing a whooping $200 fine.
Tuesday, Meyers was driving his daughter to school when he was pulled over. The officer ran his information only to discover that there was a warrant out for him. The warrant had been taken out in 2002.
On Wednesday night, Meyers received a call from Tom Green, the film’s writer-director and star. Green’s family saw Meyers on the news talking about his trip to jail. Green even offered to pay the fine for Meyers.
A fine, yes, that’s understandable, but jail? Really? Over Freddy Got Fingered? That’s a bit much.
