While fans were yelling “it’s all for you Damien”, A&E just didn’t feel the same way. The Antichrist series will not be getting a second season. We were disappointed to learn that it has officially been canceled due to the fact that the series was not bringing in the number of viewers A&E had hoped for. Last night Damien’s showrunner and executive producer Glen Mazzara took to Twitter to break the news.

The series follows Damien Throne, the child from The Omen (1976), as an adult. Damien, played by Bradley James, has grown up unaware that he is the Antichrist. The photographer must now come to terms with who and what he really is after a series of strange events and deaths.

Oscar nominee Barbara Hershey, Omid Abtahi, David Meunier, Megalyn E.K., Robin Weigert and The Walking Dead’s Scott Wilson co-star in the dark, thrilling series.

Damien is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios for A&E. Mazara developed Damien alongside Ross Fineman, who executively produced through his company, Fineman Entertainment.

Honestly, I’m not all that surprised Damien only saw one season. Don’t get me wrong, I love the series. I didn’t miss a single episode. It was dark, well written and the cast is fantastic. But when it comes to subjects like the Antichrist, it may be a bit controversial for some, especially for a channel like A&E whose most frequently aired series are The First 48, Duck Dynasty and Storage Wars. It’s true, they do air Bates Motel, but that is only one slot a week.  As a fan, I can’t help but hope that we will see the show continue somehow. I would love to see Netflix snatch up Damien and deliver a second season.
