The San Diego Comic Con is in full swing and one of the many trailers that deputed this weekend is for STARZ’s adaption of brilliant writer Neil Gaiman’s novel American Gods (2001). Gaiman also serves as executive producer for the series.
American Gods centers on the battle brewing between the Old Gods and the New Gods. The Old Gods are rooted in mythology and the religions of days gone by. The New Gods have found their footing thanks to people’s obsession with money, technology, celebrities, and drugs. The series will also deal with issues such as women’s rights, gun control, racial divides, incarceration and other aspects of today’s society.
Executive producer and co-writer Brian Fuller co-wrote the script for American Gods with Michael Green. The two are also working as co-showrunners. David Slade will be in the director’s chair for several episodes, including the pilot.
Dane Cook will co-star along side Gillian Anderson (Media), Ricky Whittle (Shadow Moon), Ian McShane (Mr. Wednesday), Emily Browning (Laura Moon), Yetide Badaki (Bilquis), Bruce Langley (Technical Boy), Cloris Leachman (Zorya Vechernyaya), Peter Stormare (Czernobog), Jonathan Tucker (Low Key Lyesmith), Crispin Glover (Mr. World), Mousa Kraish (The Jinn), Chris Obi (Anubis), Pablo Schreiber (Mad Sweeney), Kristen Chenworth (Easter) and others.
American Gods will debut on STARZ in 2017. We’ll keep you posted.
