We all assumed that ‘Stranger Things’ would be picked up for a second season. Netflix has just made it official by confirming that the gang will return in 2017 in a teaser trailer that includes the titles for season 2.
During a conversation with Entertainment Weekly the series’ writers/directors, Matt and Ross Duffer, revealed a few details of the second season including that the group of characters we love will be back next season.
I don’t think we ever thought anthology,” said Ross Duffer. “I think we talked like a larger time jump where the kids are older now and it’s a different decade. That’s something we batted around from the very beginning. But for us, there’s still more story here [in the 1980s], there’s still things that are unresolved.”
What about Eleven? Season one left us not knowing if she’s really dead or in hiding.
We don’t know about Eleven,” said Ross. “We leave that up in the air.”
As for “The Upside Down”, we have just seen the tip of the iceberg. Season 2 will delve more into that dark, mysterious place.
We kinda just peeled back the curtain and revealed a tiny bit of the Upside Down,” Matt noted. “So we definitely want to explore a little bit more. There’s a lot we don’t know about the Upside Down at the end of season 1.”
We obviously have this gate to another dimension, which is still very much open in the town of Hawkins. And a lot of questions there in terms of, if the Monster is dead, was it a singular monster? What else could be out there? We really don’t go in there much until they go in to find Will at the end. So we’ve opened up this doorway, and to us it’s exciting to talk about, like, what else is behind there? There’s a lot more mystery there to be solved.” Ross added.
The Duffer brothers also revealed that there will be four new characters next season. “There’s going to be a lot of new interesting dynamics that we didn’t see in season 1,” Matt Duffer said. The teaser features nine episode titles. One is titled “The Lost Brother”, is that referring to one of the characters? I guess we’ll have to wait to find out.
In the 8-episode first season of Stranger Things, Will (Noah Schnapp) a young boy, goes missing and his mother, played by Winona Ryder, will do anything to find him and bring him home. At the same time Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), a strange girl with strong powers escapes from a secret government facility and runs into of the missing boy’s friends. Together they set out on a mission to find him.
Winona Ryder, Matthew Modine, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Randall P. Havens and Davis Harbour co-starred in the first season.
We can’t wait for the new season! ‘Stranger Things’ is “simply brilliant” and one of the best series viewers have encountered in years, at east that seems to be the consensus. You can read our review of season one HERE.
