Earlier this year, J. J. Abrams surprised fans with a sequel to 2008’s found-footage alien film ‘Cloverfield’, titled ’10 Cloverfield Lane’. The film was a huge success, renewing interest in the franchise for fans. We reported in late October that J.J. Abrams’ third ‘Cloverfield’ film, titled ‘God Particle’, had quietly entered production.
Recently, The Wrap caught up with actor David Oyelowo in an attempt to lean more about ‘God Particle’. They did not learn much, but he did reveal the following: “Every single day we were on that set, we were agog with the inventiveness and innovation, between the technology, the story, and the audacity of what we were trying to accomplish. It’s an incredibly exciting and innovative process of storytelling. It’s incredibly surprising.”
In the ‘God Particle’ a team of astronauts make a shocking discovery and end up fighting for survival in what is being described as an “altered reality”.
David Oyelowo, stars alongside John Krasinski, Daniel Brühl, Gug Mbtha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki, and Chris O’Dowd. J.J. Abrams will produce. Julis Onah (The Girl Is In Trouble) will be directing from the script penned by Oren Uziel (Freaks of Nature, Mortal Kombat, 22 Jump Street).
‘God Particle’ will not be the last of the franchise. In fact, other films are already being considered by Paramount Pictures that will connect events, as well as characters, throughout the ‘Cloverfield’ universe.
Here’s where things get interesting, the original date set for ‘God Particle’ to be released on February 24, 2017, however, Exhibitor Relations announced via Twitter that “Paramount’s 2017 Cloverfield Movie drops from the sky October 27, 2017.” Now, were they referring to ‘God Particle’ or is there another sequel being made in secret? The film is also now being referred to as just ‘Cloverfield’. Hopefully we will know more soon. Whatever film it is that will be coming out on October 27, it might have an uphill battle ahead. The new release date will pit the new film against ‘Saw Legacy’ in theaters.
You have to admit, it would be pretty awesome to get two ‘Cloverfield’ films next year.
In 2016’s ‘10 Cloverfield Lane‘ a young woman (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), waking up after an accident, finds herself in a strange bunker with two strangers. Howard (John Goodman) says he’s saved her life from a chemical attack that has left the outside world uninhabitable and that the only way they can survive is to stay inside, but the truth is much stranger.
