Several actors who star in the hit series ‘The Walking Dead’ actually auditioned for a role other than the one we know them for. Honestly, I think they all did great in the roles they did get.
Norman Reedus
Reedus, who plays our favorite redneck badass, actually auditioned for the role of Merle. The Walking Dead big-wigs were so impressed with Reedus that they created a character just for him, Daryl. He is the only main character on the series that does not exist in the comic that the show is based on.
Sonequa Martin-Green
You will recognize Green as TWD’s Sasha, though she originally auditioned for the role of the katakana wielding badass. Michonne. That role went to Danai Gurira. Green has just been cast in a lead role in the upcoming ‘Star Trek‘ series, which leaves us concerned about Sasha.
Chad L. Coleman
Coleman, who we know as Tyreese, auditioned for the role of Morgan. Lennie James ended up portraying Morgan. Coleman was a great fit for Tyreese, in our opinion. You can watch Coleman in action now, on Hulu’s killer mutant series ‘Freakish‘.
Laurie Holden
Holden originally auditioned for the role of Rick’s wife Lori. Instead she ended up playing Andrea. I’m sure she is glad now, she got a lot more screen time as the feisty blonde that almost killed our Daryl.
Ted Huckabee
Huckabee who appeared on the series ‘Rectify’, had his sights set on playing Daryl’s brother Merle, but Michael Rooker got the part. Huckabee did end up getting a 7 episode role though, as Alexandria resident Bruce.
Ethan Embry
Embry wanted to play Rick. Instead he was cast in another role, Carter, in season 6. His character did not last long. And was a bit irritating. Embry is a talented actor. It is a shame he didn’t get a bigger part. You can catch him in the werewolf film ‘Late Phases‘ and in the upcoming supernatural thriller ‘Convergence‘.
