Back in 2015 Legendary and Warner Bros announced a partnership in which Legendary would develop the films with Warner Bros. distributing. The first film born of the partnership was ‘Kong: Skull Island‘ which opens in theaters nationwide on March 10, 2017. The reason for the arrangement, Legendary plans a new “ecosystem’ of giant monsters, old and new.
‘Godzilla: King of Monsters’ is set to start filming in Atlanta, Georgia on June 19, 2017 and is scheduled to open in theaters nationwide on March 22, 2019. It will be followed by ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ in theaters on May 29, 2020.
Dougherty has a history of making great films, the genre favorite ‘Trick ‘r Treat’ is just one example. I look forward to seeing what he does with ‘Godzilla’.
