Yes my Little Monsters, as I have previously reported, Ridley Scott is planning ahead and already has a follow up to Alien: Covenant on deck and ready to begin shooting next year. Scott’s Alien franchise prequel trilogy would be rounded out with the inclusion of Alien: Awakening.
But it appears that the order of the film trilogy’s chronology is different than fans would have anticipated. Scott spoke with Fandango recently and stated, “It will go Prometheus, Awakening, Covenant“, thus making this next possible film in the series both a prequel AND a sequel.
Scott’s motivation for this next film likely mirrored the feelings of Prometheus fans when he expressed, “I’d love to explore where the hell [Dr. Shaw] goes next and what does she do when she gets there, because if it is paradise, paradise can not be what you think it is. Paradise has a connotation of being extremely sinister and ominous … I know where it’s going. I know that to keep [David] alive is essential and to keep [Elizabeth] alive is essential and to go where they came from, not where I came from, is essential.”
Of course a man who plans one film ahead may also be planning much further ahead than that. Perhaps even a further three movies ahead. And it looks like that will be Scott’s intent, and will be based on the overall success of this trilogy. He expressed as much saying, “If this is successful, and then the next one, and then there will definitely be three more.” This next possible trilogy will be the one to complete the bridge from this current possible trilogy, which will tie it’s ending directly to the beginning of the original1979 Alien film.
Alien: Covenant will be released nationwide on May 19th. For any further information on future films in the Alien franchise, keep a weather eye here, my Little Monsters.
