It appears Get Out writer-director Jordan Peele is Heading to Lovecraft Country. Peele’s Monkey Paw Productions is teaming up with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot and Warner Bros. on a new one-hour series, titled Lovecraft Country, that will call HBO home. Underground creator Misha Green is currently penning the script for the pilot, based on the 2016 book by Matt Ruff.
The series centers on 25-year-old Atticus Black. After his father goes missing, Black joins up with his friend Letitia and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950’s America to find him. This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the malevolent spirits that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.
Peele brought the book to Green’s attention. “When I first read Lovecraft Country, I knew it had the potential to be unlike anything else on television.” Green said.
I’ll be honest, I thought Get Out was fantastic and the series has a lot of similarities to Peele’s hit film. I can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeve for Lovecraft Country.
