Filming kicked off today on Godzilla: King of Monsters the sequel to 2014’s Godzilla. Trick r’ Treat’s Michael Dougherty is in the director’s chair for what is the third installment of Legendary’s Monsterverse. Today, the full plot has been revealed, confirming what was teased following the credits in Kong: Skull Island.
King of Monsters “follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah.
When these ancient super-species thought to be mere myths rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.”
That’s right, not only do we get Godzilla, we get Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah!
Co-written by Dougherty and Zach Shields, the film stars Zhang Ziyi, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Bradley Whitford, Ken Watanabe, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Aisha Hinds.
Yoshimitsu Banno, Kenji Okuhhira, Barry H. Waldman and Zach Shields are serving as executive producers for the film, with Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Thomas Tull and Brian Rogers producing.
Godzilla: King of Monsters will invade theaters on March 22, 2019 followed by Godzilla vs. Kong in 2020.
