Fans had mixed emotions when it came to 2016’s female driven Ghostbusters. Many thought that franchise would end, but they were wrong.
Ivan Reitman, the director of the original film and its sequel, made an appearance at a panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. He revealed that he is very optimistic that a new sequel will possibly arrive around the original’s 35th anniversary in 2019.
Well, the studio is working on some really nice things. First of all, I can’t believe the movie is still playing and being watched so assiduously… and I can’t believe I’m so old. Yeah, I think there’s going to be a lot of fun, a lot of special things. We’re going to try to tie one of our films close to that date.”
It was also mentioned during the panel that the film will be live-action. He also talked about the animated series that is in the works.
I think we have wonderful plans, [including] an animated feature that we’re deep in design on already… a really great story… that’s going to surprise everybody, I think, when it comes out. And we’re dealing with Ghost World quite a lot. We’re looking at the film from a ghost point-of-view, and the Ghostbusters from a ghost point-of-view. I think that would be something very interesting.”
Hopefully, fans will be open to the new Ghostbusters projects. The last film never stood a chance. In fact the trailer for the film, starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Chris Hemsworth, is the worst rated trailer in the history of YouTube.
Hopefully, more details will be revealed soon, and when they are, we’ll let you know. Are you interested seeing another sequel?
