Brilliant director Robert Rodriguez, the man behind films such as Sin City, From Dusk Till Dawn, Planet Terror, Machete, and the ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ series, made his directorial debut back in 1992 with ‘El Mariachi with a budget of only $7,000. Rodriguez holds the Guinness World Record for the lowest-budgeted film that grossed over $1 million at the box office. The film was inducted to the Library of Congress and is part of its National Film Registry. Now, he’s giving other filmmakers a shot to kick off their career with the new series ‘Rebel Without a Crew’.
In the unscripted show, five filmmakers will be given a chance to make a feature film. Here’s the twist, they will each have a budget of only $7,000. The contestants include Scarlet Moreno, Bola Ogun, Alejandro Montoya Marin, Bommie-Kathleen Ryan, and Josh Stifter. Oh, and Rodriguez is taking on the challenge as well. The filmmakers will have just two weeks to shoot their films.
‘Rebel Without a Crew’, named after Rodriguez’s acclaimed book, will air on both Rodriguez’s El Ray Network and Verizon Media’s go90.
