2014’s vampire flick What We Do in the Shadows won our hearts and was a big success. It didn’t take long for fans to start begging for a sequel. While filmmakers Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement are still working on the script for their spin-off We’re Wolves, they are moving ahead with developing a new TV series, based on the police in the film, played by Mike Minogue and Karen O’Leary. Nick (Cori Gonzalez-Macuer) will also be featured in the series as the duo struggles to protect Wellington safe from supernatural forces.
In a recent interview with Stuff, Clement talked about the troubles over in Wellington.
It’s surprising how many demonic possessions there are,” he told Stuff. “There was a very tense situation at the Bucket Fountain – I can tell you it involved a possible Gateway from Hell. We’re very concerned about this kind of stuff.”We had an incident with some zombies which got pretty tense there,” he added. “So luckily they’re taken care of. A couple of crew members were turned into zombies – I think. It’s hard to tell sometimes.
Also, some very worrying things have happened in Lower Hutt as well. There was a party in Khandallah that got a bit out of hand, too, with some undead member of the Wellington public.”
Originally titled ‘Paranormal Event Response Unit’, the six-episode show has a new name, ‘Wellington Paranormal’, and will air on New Zealand’s channel TVNZ in 2018.
We should see the series released internationally at some point. We’ll update you when we know more.
