Today, Legendary Comics unleashed a new comic series, Pacific Rim Aftermath, ahead of Pacific Rim Uprising‘s arrival in theaters this March.
Pacific Rim Aftermath is a six-part comic book prologue that is set nine years after the events of the original 2013 Pacific Rim film — and one year before the upcoming film.
The series follows “Jake as he searches for the truth behind the death of his father, Stacker Pentecost, and introduces Griffin, a former Jaeger pilot who now works as an enforcer for a corrupt mob boss, as well as a mysterious criminal figure called the Mech Czar, who rules the underworld with a steel fist. With an emotionally charged narrative that paves the way for what is ahead in the new film, fans will discover new revelations that point to the future of the Pacific Rim universe.”

Pacific Rim Aftermath was penned by comics writer Cavan Scott (Star Wars: Adventures, Doctor Who: The Lost Dimension) and features art by Richard Elson (The Amazing Spiderman: Dying Wish, Wolverine: Savage). The comic series’ storyline also benefitted from special collaborations with Steven S. DeKnight, writer and director of Pacific Rim Uprising, as well as the film’s star and producer John Boyega (Star Wars: The Last Jedi).

I’m a huge comics fan, so having the chance to collaborate with the talented artist and writers on this series has been a rewarding one. The art and the storyline are top notch, expanding upon my character Jake Pentecost in a way that seamlessly connects the dots between the first film and Uprising. There’s action, story, heart and a few big surprises I can’t wait for you to experience. Boyega has stated.

Pacific Rim Uprising writer-director Steven S. DeKnight shared his excitement about the comic’s release, “The Pacific Rim universe is so epic in scale, it’s only fitting that we expand the story of Pacific Rim Uprising with this whole new storyline. Working on the new film has been a labor of love, and as a comic book fan myself I can’t think of a better way to set the stage for the new film.”
