We reported last week that “Gotham” star Crystal Reed had joined the new “Swamp Thing” series from James Wan (The Conjuring franchise). Now, news has come the iconic creature has been cast.
Derek Mears will play the role of the DC character. Who will play the human version of Swamp Thing, Dr. Alec Holland has yet to be announced.

Mears is an incredibly talented actor who has starred in many horror films including Predators, Hatchet III, Freaks of Nature, Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead, and 2009’s Friday the 13th in which he played Jason Vorhees.
The series, based on the DC comic created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, is penned by “Ash vs. Evil Dead” writer Mark Verheiden and IT co-writer Gary Dauberman. Underworld director Lin Wiseman will direct the pilot episode.
“Swamp Thing” centers on CDC researcher Abby Arcane. When she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.
Verheiden and Dauberman are executive producing along with Atomic Monster’s James Wan and Michael Clear. Rob Hackett serves as co-producer.
“Swamp Thing” will premiere sometime in 2019.
