Last year we reported that the classic The Witches is headed for a reboot. Today we have an update. Robert Zemeckis is set to direct the new adaptation of the novel penned by Ronald Dahl, which was first adapted by Nicolas Roeg back in 1990. Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuaron will be producing.
Zemeckis revealed a little tidbit to Allocine, saying that the new film will have a different setting and will stay closer to the original tale.
We’re going to set it in the Gothic South in the 1960s. It’s an exciting way to put a sociological spin on this kind of witch story.” Zemeckis stated.
The 1990 film follows a seven-year-old boy who finds himself in danger after stumbling across a convention of real-life witches and must find a way to stop them.
