Anne Hathaway Set To Star In New Adaptation Of ‘The Witches’

A few months ago we reported that reboot of The Witches was in the works. Today, news has come via Deadline that Anne Hathaway has signed on to star in Robert Zemeckis‘ new adaptation of Roald Dahl‘s 1983 novel first adapted by director Nicolas Roeg in 1990.
 
Hathaway is set to play the role of the Grand High Witch, originally played by Anjelica Huston. According to the site, Viola Davis is also circling the film set in the Gothic South in the 1960s.
 
 

 
 

The 1990 film follows a seven-year-old boy who has a run-in with real-life witches. Zemeckis’ version is reported to be more rooted in the original source material.
 

Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuaron will be producing The Witches.
