Two years after Idris Elba starred as the gunslinger Roland Deschain in The Dark Tower, based on the novels by Stephen King, the story is getting a series adaptation from Amazon with Sam Strike (Leatherface) set to star as Roland. The series, which is currently filming, has added “Walking Dead” actor Michael Rooker to the cast.
According to Deadline, “The Dark Tower” will be “independent from the film and is meant to be a more faithful retelling of the book than the movie was.” I hear it will take place many years before the events depicted in the film, and will focus on Roland Deschain’s (Strike) origin story – how he first became a gunslinger and got his guns, his first conflict with the man in black, his first love and his first mission as a gunslinger.”
Jasper Pääkkönen (BlacKKKlansman), Jarome Flynn (“Game of Thrones”), Ivan Kaye (“Vikings”), Ana Padrão (Cabaret Maxime), Abraham Popoola (Les Misérables), and Joana Ribeiro (The Man Who Killed Don Quixote) round out the cast.
“The Walking Dead’s” Glen Mazzara is serving as both the series’ showrunner and executive producer, as well as writer.
