Let me guess, you’ve binged season three of “Stranger Things” and now you feel empty. You need to find something watch until season four arrives. I get it. I’m right there with you, that’s why I made this list of six Netflix series to watch after “Stranger Things”. Enjoy.
“Black Spot”
A small, remote town surrounded by forest has long been a place cursed by mysterious deaths and disappearances. The disappearance of her daughter’s best friend brings up old wounds for a police chief who sets out to solve the two mysteries that might be linked while a new prosecutor investigates a powerful local family.
“Black Spot” is a fantastic, dark, brutal series featuring many twists and turns that keep you hooked. A solid 5/5.
“The Umbrella Acadamy”
Part superhero and part family drama, “Umbrella Acadamy” follows a group of adopted siblings that all have mysterious special abilities that have reunited after their father dies. Think of this series as a dark twist on the superhero genre that tackles subjects like violence, death, addiction, sexuality, and family. 4 1/2/5.
How it’s like “Stranger Things”: “The Umbrella Acadamy” is filled with dark comedy and it’s all about family.
“Wynonna Earp”
Melanie Scrofano stars as Wynonna Earp in the series adaptation of Beau Smith’s comic. Wynonna is a badass demon hunter and the great-great-granddaughter of the epic western lawman Wyatt Earp. With her unique abilities and a posse of dysfunctional allies, she’s the only thing that can bring the paranormal to justice.
The first three seasons are now streaming on Netflix. Season 4 will premiere on Syfy in 2020.
“Riverdale”
While navigating the troubled waters of romance, school and family, Archie and his gang become entangled in dark Riverdale mysteries in a town where nothing is what it seems. Three seasons of the series is currently streaming on Netflix.
“The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”
From the creator of “Riverdale”, Robert Aguirre-Sacasa comes this terrifyingly good series starring Kiernan Shipka as Sabrina, a teen that’s half witch, half human. As Sabrina reaches her sixteenth birthday all hell is unleashed. This young lady is spooky in all the right ways. I should mention that this version of the teenage witch story is much darker than the one we saw as a kid. Of course, there’s the usual teenage drama, growing up, love, and Satan. And here’s the best news, the series is still alive and well on Netflix.
“The Order”
Out to avenge his mother’s death, a college student pledges to a secret order and lands in a war between werewolves and practitioners of dark magic. This supernatural series is a great one, a solid 4/5.
