Daniel XIII; the result of an arcane ritual involving a King Diamond album, a box of Count Chocula, and a copy of Swank magazine, is a screenwriter, director, producer, actor, artist, and reviewer of fright flicks…Who hates ya baby?

Brad and Mike Rayburn (Danny and Scotty Bohnen who also co-wrote the picture) along with their bosom chum Dennis Copley (Jason Potter) run an amateur survival web series. To that end they trek out to a cabin out in the middle of  nowhere… a location 1600 people have vanished without a trace, so right there you know we are dealing with a real brain trust here.

A slow-burn ensues until finally these folks realize the reason all those people pulled a Greta Garbo and now it’s looking to make their asses extinct right quick!

I’ll tell you up front, She Walks the Woods is a found footage fracas, so you know what to expect there for better or worse visually. Thankfully it does some things with the genre I really appreciated… but more on that in a bit…

Leading the positives is the fact that our lead characters Mike and Brad are actually likable dudes instead of the normal annoying pricks we are often forced to spend time with in affairs such as these. The Bohnen brothers are humorous and engaging so we actually care about their plight, so two tentacles up there boils n’ ghouls.

Speaking of the Bohnen bros., their script for this manages to be both suspenseful and entertaining while not re-inventing the wheel… this is Horror Biz 101 here fiends with a narrative concerning folks encountering an evil in the woods they are ill-equipped to handle, but the pacing and creature action make it a damn sight better that a shit ton of other entries in the crowded genre.

And since we mentioned that creature up yonder, that brings me to the real positive on display here; this is a found footage fright flick where you actually get to see the damn monster at hand (played by Jessie Nerud)! In a near unheard of move this badass beast is not only seen, but it’s realized practically with none of that poopy-shit (it’s an industry term, trust me) CG. High fuckin’ five for you fabulous freaky filmmakers!

If your dig on found footage flicks , and want to see one with a straight-forward plot, entertaining characters, and a monster that actually fucking appears onscreen, then put your eerie eyeballs on She Walks in the Woods!

She Walks in the Woods is available now on Amazon Prime!
