Robert Eggers, the brilliant filmmaker behind The Witch and The Lighthouse will next bring to life The Northman, a Viking revenge film.

Described as a “saga set in Iceland at the turn of the 10th century,” The Northman was written by Eggers and Icelandic pet and novelist Sjón.

According to Deadline, the list of impressive actors currently in talks to star includes brothers Alexander Skarsgård (“True Blood”) and Bill Skarsgård (IT), Nicole Kidman (The Others), Anya Taylor-Joy (Glass), and Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse).

Eggers is once again teaming up with Oscar-nominated cinematographer Jarin Blaschke who did an amazing job with The Lighthouse (review).

The Northman will be the third entry in a “trilogy of sorts” revolving around dark folk tales, according to Eggers. He also states that this film will be “bigger than the others” and that it will be “dark and unusually violent.”

The Lighthouse is now out on Blu-ray and DVD from A24.
