“Sleepy Hollow” and “True Blood” actress Janina Gavankar (The Way Back) co-wrote and is set to star in an upcoming untitled female-driven supernatural horror, Deadline reports.

The mysterious film is based on the ancient Hindu myth of the Rakshasa, a bloodthirsty demon that makes mankind its prey after it is banished from the realm of the gods and forced to live amongst humankind.

Gavankar co-wrote the script with Russo Schelling who she also worked with on the 2019 17 minutes long short horror film Stucco which has already been viewed 14 million times online (Watch Below).

The untitled film will be shot in India and is being executive produced by Abhi Rastogi, Matthew Francis Wilson, and Justin Deimen. 108 Media is both financing and producing the project.

Hopefully, we will know more soon but in the meantime, you can catch Janina Gavankar in the  Amazon Studios/Film 4 sci-fi thriller Invasion, directed by BAFTS-winning director Michael Pearce, in which she plays Piya.

“In Invasion, starring Riz Ahmed and Octavia Spencer, two young brothers go on the run with their father, a decorated Marine, who is on a rescue mission to save his boys from an inhuman threat. As their journey takes them in increasingly dangerous and unexpected directions, the boys will need to confront hard truths and leave their childhoods behind.”
