The Scream franchise has been loved by genre fans since it was released back in 1995.
The latest installment, it’s fifth, is on its way, with details being kept hush-hush. However, franchise creator and writer Kevin Williamson took to Twitter today to reveal that filming has wrapped and to confirm that the title is simply Scream (really?). He also shared some behind-the-scenes-photos (below). It seems he’s been involved with the project the whole time and is serving as co-writer and as an executive producer.
Williamson tweeted, “I’m excited for you to return to Woodsboro and get really scared again. I believe Wes would’ve been so proud of the film that Matt and Tyler are making. I’m thrilled to be reunited with Neve, Courteney, David and Marley, and to be working alongside a new filmmaking team and incredible cast of newcomers that have come together to continue Wes’s legacy with the upcoming relaunch of the franchise that I hold so dear to my heart.”
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who are behind Ready or Not, are directing the film written by Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt.
The franchise’s heroine Neve Campbell returns along with David Arquette and Courtney Cox. New cast members include Jack Quaid (“The Boys”) and Melissa Barrera (“In The Heights”), and Jenna Ortega(“You”).
Scream opens in theaters on January 14, 2022, from Spyglass and Paramount.
