Troma is going mainstream with a reboot of the horror-comedy The Toxic Avenger which is being produced by Legendary Pictures, the company that brought you Jurassic Park, Crimson Peak, and many other blockbusters.
According to Deadline, “Game of Thrones” actor Peter Dinklage is currently in talks to star in the film that will be directed by Macon Blair writer and director of Netflix’s I Don’t Feel At Home In This World Anymore. There is no word yet what role Dinklage will play.
The Toxic Avenger premiered in 1984 as a successful midnight movie in New York, becoming a cult classic and going on to spawn three sequels, a cartoon series, a musical, and a Marvel comic.
In the movie, Toxic Avenger was created when a meek, bullied mop boy named Melvin falls into toxic waste. After mutating he sets out to stop evildoers.
Loyd Kaufman, creator of Toxic Avenger and co-creator of Troma Studios will be producing along with his fellow Troma co-creator Michael Herz, as well as Legendary’s Alex Garcia and Jay Ashenfelter.
