People watching last night’s MTV Movie Awards got a new sneak peek at The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, but don’t worry if you missed it, we’ve got it right here for you to see courtesy of the movie awards’ official Twitter account (you can also watch below). In the clip, Lorraine Warren is attacked deep in the forest while using her talent as a medium.

Directed by Michael Chaves (The Curse of La Llorona), “The Devil Made Me Do It reveals a chilling story of terror, murder, and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. One of the most sensational cases from their files, it starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy, then takes them beyond anything they’d ever seen before, to mark the first time in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense.”

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson return to their roles as the famous paranormal investigators, the Warrens, in the film directed by Michael Chaves (The Curse of La Llorona). The film also stars Ruairi O’Connor (Starz’s “The Spanish Princess”), Sarah Catherine Hook (Hulu’s “Monsterland”), and Julian Hilliard (“Penny Dreadful: City of Angels,” “The Haunting of Hill House”).

The film is based on the true story of Arne Cheyenne Johnson. His case marks the first time demonic possession was used as a legal defense in the U.S. The defense did not completely work however, on November 24, 1981, in Brookfield, Connecticut, Johnson was convicted of first-degree manslaughter for murdering his landlord. Before he was arrested, his family contacted the Warrens for help.

James Wan and Peter Safran produce the film written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring 2), based on the story by James Wan and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. Executive producers include Richard Brener, Dave Neustadter, Michael Clear, Victoria Palmeri, Judson Scott, and Michelle Morrissey.

The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It opens in theaters and arrives on HBO Max on June 4, 2021.
