What would you do if you found the man that sexually assaulted your daughter? That’s what the indie film For the Sake of Vicious, from directors Gabriel Carrer and Reese Eveneshen, is all about.

The movie follows a vengeful father out for justice against the man who assaulted his young daughter. After beating the shit out of the man he seeks help from a nurse who becomes trapped as murderous men descend on her home.

Nick Smyth plays the role of Chris, the avenging father.  I was so impressed by the level of emotion Smyth emotes and the way he made his character feel real. Also, I was quite impressed with the fight he puts up against the masked men, and boy did he put up one hell of a fight! Speaking of fighting, this movie has a ton of action, and it doesn’t mind getting bloody and gory. My favorite blow came from actress Lora Burke (Romina) when she drove that hammer into a bad guy’s eye. I actually flinched. It’s too bad her character is so wishy-washy, trying to stay natural during 90% of the film. Pick a side already!

I love that practical effects were used in the film. But the story was left lacking, especially in character development. However, if you’re interested in seeking out mindless blood shed this may be the film for you. Watch as wave after wave after masked attackers fill the screen, which is a little over the top. If we were talking about a real situation, the father and nurse would have been dead within the first twenty minutes, but somehow they stay on their feet.

Yes, the film does feature some graphic, horrific things, and sure, and the film does have some aspects of a thriller, but mostly it’s an action flick and that’s okay. We need action movies. Is it worth watching? I’m going to say yes. Just brace yourself, there’s a lot of mindless, graphic violence so make sure no kids are around when you watch it.

For the Sake of Vicious is now out on Blu-ray and DVD, as well as on Shudder.
