The new Scream sequel has been doing great at the box office bringing in $63.2 million in the U.S. alone. So, it’s not very surprising that a follow-up has already been given the green light by Paramount and will begin filming this summer.
While there has not been any news yet if any cast members will be returning for the new sequel, Screen Rant is reporting that several members of the creative team will be back for Scream 6, including James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick and directors Matt Bettinelli-Pilin and Tyler Gillett.
Working with such a wonderful and talented family of creators — and in the lineage, Wes [Anderson] and Kevin [Williamson] so expertly built — has been the thrill of a lifetime, and we’re so excited to bring the next chapter in the Scream saga to life.” Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett said in a statement. ” As long as there are horror movies, there will be horror movie cliches. As a result, there will always be material for more Scream movies. It’s just a question of whether audiences want to see more of them. This year they did — and so there will be another one. In the meantime, Scream (5) is still playing in theaters around the country. Paramount has yet to announce a home video or digital release for the film.
Scream (5) is set twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.
Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gail Weathers (Courtney Cox), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) return to save a new generation of victims in the new sequel to the Scream franchise, set twenty-five years after the first film. Deputy Judy Hicks (Marley Shelton) from Scream 4 also returns. New cast members include Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Jack Quaid, and Dylan Minnette.
