From Blumhouse and the director of DOCTOR STRANGE and SINISTER, Universal Pictures presents THE BLACK PHONE.
Director Scott Derrickson returns to his terror roots, partnering Blumhouse for the new horror-thriller, The Black Phone, whose new featurette sees Ethan Hawke delve into “The Grabber,” the twisted, mask-wearing villain of the film, as well as his journey “to the dark side.”
The movie centers on “Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.
Starring four-time Oscar® nominee Ethan Hawke in the terrifying role of his career and introducing Mason Thames in his film debut, The Black Phone is produced, directed, and co-written by Scott Derrickson. The latter also wrote and directed Sinister, which also starred Hawke. He’s also behind The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Marvel’s Doctor Strange. Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and James Ransone also star.
The film’s screenplay is by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill (Doctor Strange, Sinister franchise), based on the award-winning short story by Joe Hill from his New York Times bestseller, 20th Century Ghosts. The film is produced by Derrickson & Cargill’s Crooked Highway and presented by Universal and Blumhouse, along with Jason Blum, Scott Derrickson, and C. Robert Cargill. The film is executive produced by Ryan Turek and Christopher H. Warner.
Answer the call and head to theaters on June 24, 2022, to see The Black Phone.
